How I Track

I track shot locations and zone entries live at Guelph Storm home games, from section 102. I post a short summary after each game I attend, with deeper reads later in the season.

The zone key

Every Storm shot attempt gets logged to one of these zones. Shots from outside the offensive zone are counted separately. The shaded arc marked HD is the high-danger zone.

What the numbers mean

Controlled entry
The Storm enter the offensive zone with possession of the puck.
Dump-in
The Storm enter the offensive zone by shooting the puck in.
Controlled %
Controlled entries divided by total entries.
High-danger (HD) shot
A shot from inside the HD zone on the key above.
Shots on net
Goals plus saves.
Attempts
Shots on net plus misses and blocks.

What the data covers

  • One tracker. Every game is logged live by me, so there's no second person checking the counts.
  • Storm offence only. I don't track opponents, so these numbers don't show how the Storm compare with the other team.
  • Only games I attend. 4 games so far, not the Storm's full schedule, so season numbers are a sample.
